The Question Answer Process

by Mary Allen, M.D.

  • Notice what you would like to be more clear about. What emotions are you feeling?

  • Next, imagine you are sitting comfortably on a surf board in a calm, safe ocean. You float up and down with the small swells.

  • Breathe in and out and let yourself feel relaxed and comfortable.

  • As a small wave bobs up, notice a question. Any question.

  • Then notice the answer.

  • Once you get the answer, wait for the next wave and the next question that arises.

  • If the answer is, "I don't know", or feels incomplete, wait for the next wave and ask another question.

  • Keep asking questions until you have come to the core issue.

  • Just trust the process and keep going deeper.

  • Once you find a core thought or belief that brings discomfort, try on different beliefs until you find the one that makes you feel calm. That one is true.

  • It might be helpful to have someone write down your process as you go, or jot down notes yourself if it is not too distracting.
